If not now...When
At mid-life I decided it was time to follow the path I had been moving toward most of my life. I have always had an intense interest in the psyche and the human experience. I finally decided to pursue that interest by entering Graduate school at St. Edward's University. My undergraduate degree is in Studio Art. It is through art that I came to psychology as I discovered the universal symbols and stories that Jung referred to as Archetypes.
Being an artist is about observation and perhaps seeing a different perspective or angles others miss. I find this serves me well as a counselor helping me to be creative, curious and open to the unexpected. I draw on many resources as I work; poetry, art, literature, films, and spirituality. Having a sense of humor is important also. Laughter is healing.
Upon graduation I worked as an intern for a low cost mental health facility. Working there was rewarding and provided me with extensive experience in all areas of mental health. Additionally I worked under my supervisor in her private practice.
I continue exploring effective ways to help my clients through post graduate education and trainings. My focus is on the integration of the mind, body, and spirit.
Life experience, as well as having raised a family, help me to meet my clients where they are. I love this work, the exploration, and mystery of it. I have deep admiration for my clients who enter into this often difficult territory.
I am a Reiki Master and continue to paint. Gardening, nature, animals, and family help me maintain balance in my life.
